Taking Bikes on Board

In general, taking bikes on board is permitted with the following transportation companies: S-Bahn Berlin GmbH, DB Regio AG, Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (ODEG), NEB Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (NEB), Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH (PEG), Ostseeland Verkehr GmbH (OLA) and the subways and trams of the BVG.

For subways and trams, boarding with bicycles is only permitted in areas where the doors are specially marked–provided that sufficient space is available. If the train is full, passengers must wait for the next train. Passengers with children in strollers, and severely handicapped people in wheelchairs have priority.

Taking a bike on board a bus is only allowed on some bus companies in the VBB. The driver reserves the right to reject a bike if space is limited.

Bicycles with more than three wheels bikes with trailers and motorized means of transportation are not permitted on board. Excepted from this are electric pedal scooters with a rated continuous output of less than 500 watts and bicycles with an electric auxiliary motor. The built-in batteries must not be removed, charged or used in any other way (e.g. as a powerbank) during transport unless this is explicitly permitted in the vehicle.

For safety reasons, cycling in the stations and the taking bikes on the escalators is prohibited. Also prohibited is the permanent parking of electric scooters.

The Bicycle short trip ticket can be used for up to three stations by S-Bahn or U-Bahn and up to six stations by bus or tram. The ticket is valid within fare zone Berlin AB, for journeys between fare zones B and C, and for journeys only in fare zone C on the S-Bahn. It also can be used on ferries (exception: F10 Wannsee <> Kladow). It is not valid on regional trains.

Transfers are only permitted within the S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks. Commuting breaks and return trips are not possible.

Bicycle single trip ticket allow a bike to be taken on board with unlimited transfers in the direction of the destination. Commuting breaks within the fare zone are permitted within the 120 minutes from the time the ticket is validated.

Bikes can be taken along in S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains and in regional trains. Please enter only in the doors displaying the bike logo. Drivers reserve the right to deny a bike if space is limited.

If the destination is outside of fare zone C, you will need a VBB Bicycle single trip ticket. Bike tickets are valid for a single trip on the printed date. Return and round trips are excluded.

If you are planning several trips with your bike in one day, the Bike Day Ticket might be a more appropriate option for you.

24h tickets / day tickets for bicycles are issued for fare zones AB, BC and ABC in Berlin, and for fare zones ABC in Brandenburg, Havel, Cottbus, Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam as well as for the VBB network. With the flexible 24h ticket you can travel for a whole 24 hours after validation or from the start of validity printed on the ticket.

In the case of tickets on which the date is printed, validity runs until 3am of the following day.

Monthly tickets are issued to anyone and are transferable. They are issued for fare zones AB and ABC in Berlin, and for fare zones AB in Brandenburg, Havel, Cottbus, Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam as well as for the VBB network.

The Bicycle monthly ticket generally only apply to one bicycle. Monthly tickets are valid from the first day they are issued until midnight on the same numerical day of the following month.

For tickets valid from January 30^th or 31st, the expiry date ends on the last day of February. Bicycle monthly ticket can also be issued for a calendar month, which is marked on the ticket with the month and year.

The monthly tickets are valid from midnight on the last calendar day of the previous month to midnight on the first calendar day of the following month. They are not issued as yearly or subscription tickets.
