What kind of data do we collect and how or why do we process your data at all?

We maintain several presences on different social media channels. These social media activities – operated by us and explained in further detail below – are carried out in accordance with art. 6 paragraph 1 lit. f) of the German general data protection regulation (DSGVO). We use these activities to provide you with a broad spectrum of multi-media contents and to communicate with you on important topics.

Twitter
The S-Bahn Berlin GmbH Twitter channels publish tips and information related to S-Bahn travel. They serve as press and public relations channels for all S-Bahn Berlin GmbH related information.

When you visit our Twitter channels, the operator Twitter Inc., 1355 Market Street, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA stores and processes personal data to the extent described in the service’s own data protection notice. Beyond Twitter’s own data collection and processing, we only process your data to a very limited extent:

In some cases, we may use the social management tool “SocialHub” to handle comments and questions. Any data imported into this tool (comments, user names) is automatically deleted after 12 months.

Prize draws and competitions also require the collection of some data. If you would like to know more about the precise nature of the data collected, e. g. which data is collected for which purpose, you will find all details in the respective prize draw’s or competition’s data protection notice and terms of participation.

Only when there is a breach of our netiquette, we store related user names and comments deleted due to such a breach of netiquette. These are only retained to serve as proof in case of legal disputes.

To support the needs-based design and ongoing optimisation of our web pages, we may also use the Twitter Analytics statistics service. All data collected here are gathered anonymously via the measuring method offered by Twitter, Twitter Analytics, and only for statistical purposes.

YouTube
S-Bahn Berlin GmbH‘s YouTube channels show videos related to our public transport offers as well as helpful travel planning tips.

In some cases, we may use the social management tool “Dimelo Digital” for handling comments and questions. Any data imported into the tool (comments, user names) is automatically deleted in full after 48 months.

Is data forwarded?

For the purpose of performing a contract and offering services on these websites, we generally need to involve processors, from parties such as computer centre operators, printing or shipping service providers, or other parties involved in performing the contract, who are bound by instructions from us.

The external service providers that we hire to process data are carefully selected and subject to strict contractual obligations. The service providers follow our instructions, and this is guaranteed by strict contractual regulations, technical and organisational measures, as well as supplementary checks and controls.

Service providers will need to be incorporated, for instance as part of managing and maintaining IT systems. Your data will be transmitted in accordance with legal regulations or if you have given us your express consent.

Data will not be transferred to third countries outside the EU/EEA or to an international organisation unless appropriate guarantees have been provided. These include the EU standard contractual clauses and an adequacy decision from the EU Commission.

 

What rights do our users have?

  • They can request information on the data we have stored on them.
  • They can demand the correction, deletion and restriction of processing (blocking) of their personal data, as long as this is legally permissible and possible as part of an existing contractual relationship.
  • They have the right to file a complaint with a supervisory body.
  • They have the right to “data portability“, i. e. they can ask for the data they have provided to us based on an agreement or a contract.
  • Where they have given their consent for data processing, they may revoke such consent at any time by the same means. This revocation of consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out prior to this retraction of consent.
  • They may object to data processing for reasons resulting from a special situation if and where the data processing is in our legitimate interest.
  • They can object to any marketing use at any time and with future effect.

Should you have any questions concerning the data processing or user rights of social networks, e. g. if you would like to request a deletion, we recommend contacting the respective social network directly since only this network has full access to your user data. If you would like to stop the data processing described here with future effect, you can cancel the connection between your user profile and the page or profile in question by simply “unfollowing” the respective page or channel.

Updating data privacy notices

We amend the data privacy notice to reflect changes to functionalities or changes to the legal situation. We therefore recommend that you review the data privacy notice at regular intervals.
